  1. Personally I would recommend these two books. Both I believe are good beginners books,at least they helped me when I first started the craft.
  2. The book by Thorne contains only line drawings and was first published in 1960 so it is well out of date regarding materials, work tools, glues etc. Now days I would say it has more use as an historical book about the building of ships in bottles.
  3. Thanks James. It's been tough to model. Let's see if it gets in the bottle ok.
  4. Oops, sorry Igor;didn't mean to double post your pictures ...😔
  5. Pirates of the Caribbean,Black Pearl circa 2003 but I guess it was modelled on an 18th century ship.😂
  6. Some progress with masts and rigging. Not an easy ship to model. Noticed already that I made the poop deck a bit too narrow but its too late to alter now.Progress is slow.Hoped that I would complete it by Christmas but that seems unrealistic at the moment.
  7. Nice idea. The little ships look great.Precision work!
  8. Black Pearl. Built one for my eldest daughter seven years ago so thought I had to try to make a better one. Thanks to Alan and Caleb for a bit of inspiration to re-visit the Pearl. She's about 50% completed but still have much to do,masts ,spars, sails etc....

Even though I have access to a scroll saw I don't like to use it so much as the blade tends to 'jump' around too much for my liking, so I used a small hobby band saw with fine teeth;still a bit nerve wracking though. Before cutting up the hull I drill 2x 1mm diameter holes through the hull ,vertically and horizontally so after the cut/cuts these holes will line up perfectly and I can peg the hull together so that it virtually looks like a complete hull again. Hope this answers your question.
  10. Wow, beautiful looking schooner Igor. Great work!
  11. Very nice work. Hard to believe that it's your first sib. Keep up the good work. Onni
