  1. Just some cloth I had laying around. Can’t remember exactly where it was from but I think that it was from a bedding sheet that we had from when the kids were little (many years ago 🤔)
  2. Added the sails and some rigging, and tried to copy the flags/pendants on the original church model. Stern lantern is made out of clear perplex. Everything is going to be a tight fit in the bottle!
  3. Incredible and beautiful work Igor!
  4. The only plastic I used on this ship were the painted shields that adorn the outside of the fore and aft castles. Checking how she looks with masts and sails.
  5. Nice to see you back Igor. It’s been awhile. I can see that you have been very busy!👍🏻
  6. Painted the hull and started construction of the fore and aft ‘castles’.
  7. Jesse,my son got married a few years ago in this same church (it’s actually a cathedral which I didn’t realise!) Dates from the 1400’s.
  8. Votive ship (model) is usually gifted to a church to grant safety to seamen and all others at sea. They are quite common to see in churches in Scandinavia. I am attempting to replicate the one that is hanging in Porvoo church in Southern Finland. (See photo) The hull I am making is carved out of birch with the bulwarks in thin veneer. Hull has been cut into quarters to fit through the bottle neck. Forgot to post a shot of the bottle (coming up later!)but it is completely round about the size of a man’s hand. Bottle opening is a generous 23 mm. I plan to have the ship hanging inside the bottle by a hook.
  9. Really nice looking ship. Great work, well done👍🏻

Looking good. I found this colour scheme in a book but it is for Western approaches.
  11. Nice work. That's quite a lot of rigging to sort out. Look forward to seeing her finished.
  12. Even us ‘ship in bottler’s ‘need a holiday sometimes hence the lull in our output! Happy and safe New Year!
  13. Very nice work indeed Donald. Well done.
  14. Fantastic! Beautiful work Chass. Congratulations on a fine job.
  15. I think that’s the right decision. Best to take your time to fix it .
  16. I would recommend drilling a small hole through the yard and the mast with a pin vise or watchmakers drill and then thread the cotton through both and tie off with any knot. Just make sure that the yard can swivel so that’s it’s easy to insert through the bottle neck when the time comes. Perhaps these illustrations from ‘Sailing in glass’ by Joop van Schouten may help to visualise better.
  17. What can I say;it’s very artistic Seriously,a great bit of carving.Congrats to your nephew, the boat is super.
  18. I’m no expert but in normal work building a ship from wood then I use ordinary white wood glue from a bottle but use it quite thinly. If I have any plastic parts i.e. made from styrene then I glue them with a super glue but be aware that super glue will react with the glass inside the bottle and can be difficult to get clean. Maybe other people can recommend some other types of glues for you depending on where you are based.
