Shipbuilder got a reaction from Gwyl Blaser in Persian Empire 100ft to 1 in
Here is a miniature I built years ago. Not particularly good, on detail, and a funny colour as well! It was that colour in real life! My wife's grandfather was an able seaman in the Persian Empire in the late 1890s. The rigging is a bit too thick, but it is often admired more than my better efforts!

Shipbuilder got a reaction from John Zuch in My shipmodelling & other activies over many years
Just discovered my own Picaso album online
I had been putting images on my blog for years, not realising that they were all piling up together in cyberspace. Most of the models were built by myself over many years, but the larger ones were built by members of North West Model Shipwrights (UK). Some of the meetings were also included.
It has been quite interesting to find all these images grouped together.

Shipbuilder got a reaction from Gwyl Blaser in HELP! Need to Identfiy this model
I would imagine that it was just built without any ship in mind, and called Beatrice for reasons known only to the builder. Not very accurate for anything, I am afraid! Even the flag is incorrect for a British vessel, as it should be a Red Ensign!

And here is a small model of the Dundee steam whaling barque Esquimaux, laid alongside an ice shelf.

I read the book, and finding a small plan in it, produced this little model of the Essex.

Shipbuilder got a reaction from Gwyl Blaser in Barque Caithness-Shire Construction - U Tube
Thanks for replies. It still surprises me that hardly any model shipbuilders like building this type of ship!

Here is a U Tube presentation of the battle between Monitor and Merrimac. Only nine minutes long, but quite good.

Shipbuilder got a reaction from tazam0827 in Preussen Clipper
I always find the hulls much more difficult and time-consuming than the rigging, but I don't have to make the rigging fold down, so that is a huge problem that I don't have to contend with. Here are two shots of my Preussen. One is low angle, showing the shape of the counter stern - it took me ages to develop a good method of making counters. The other image is complete, and all ready for the sea.

I could never work to that scale! Bad enough at 25 feet to 1 inch with something as complicated as Preussen. And making it all fold down and up again is totally beyond my comprehension! This is how I fitted my bowsprit, in a socket!

Look at this! Someone sent me the link, and it is a really good example of a SIB.

Lord Wolseley, 1883. Typical four-masted barque. Quite complicated for a bottle!
