Bernard Kelly reacted to Shipbuilder in Small steel barquentine
Small steel barquentine. 20 feet to 1 inch. White-hulled ships are not very photogenic.

It is sad news to me too. Although I haven't started a SIB in a while (because I am building a Syren kit) I do check in every day. I have learned a lot from others here. Being a smaller group it is less formal and more friendly than places like MSW can be at times. If I wasn't disabled and lost my career I would help pay to keep things running. I will miss it if we close down.

Bernard Kelly reacted to exwafoo in M97 First Ship in a Bottle Build
The only nasty comments I have experienced have been from me directed at me - for example, I mentioned in another thread my practise SIB, is now on its 6th or 7th set of masts. Well, it is now on its 7th or 8th set because I dropped it this morning, and just like buttered toast, it landed wrong side down. The air was blue!
welcome on board

Hi, WinchesterM97!
Welcome aboard!
I do not think you should worry about the rude and unnecessary comments. Each of us had once made his first model and continues to learn and try.
As I see it, you can draw the complete plan of your ship and assess the degree of filling of the internal volume of the bottle.
In addition, the hull of the model you can make from more parts.
I do not have the experience of the wood's carving, but it seems to me, it is quite difficult art, in which is difficult to correct mistakes. I ordered a set of incisors and I hope to get it soon. Then I'll try.
Have you any photo yuor works?
Best Regards!
Igor.

For enthusiasts, collecting model ship is more than just a hobby. People can learn about the actual ships with the help of these model ships as they are the actual replicas of real ships. Model ships are made up of wood are the best. You can also gift such miniature to someone with interest in old ships.
The construction of ship miniatures has been in practice since ages. Because of that, some of the miniatures that are still present aware modern world people about the technology used in seafaring at that time. The successive changes in the construction of these model ships illustrate the advancement of the technology and helped in a proper refinement of design, which can be seen in America’s cup yachts and other marine models.
Items like wooden boat miniatures now commonly serve as display pieces due to its soothing and magical atmosphere. Model ship companies also provide good discounts and deals.Furthermore, some companies provide wooden ship kits for sale which can be easily bought through the company’s website.
Products like clipper wood ship model have become an attractive choice for the decoration because it creates a natural ambiance to any office or home space. By adding ship models to the interior decoration, we can achieve the feeling of being close to sea even if we are not. It is not wrong to say that these models are enough to add elegance and charm to any place.

Many thanks bluenoser!
The work is slow, but, nevertheless, it is going
A few days ago I was compelled to make building berth. This time the rigging turns out to be more complicated than I did before.

After that, I tried to set and the other two front sails
-

Then I completed the wiring of the running rigging of the first of the front sails
-

Then I made the strip with stops and installed a couple more blocks at the stern.

Next, I made the hawse-holes for the anchor rope from the pieces of the medical needle and fixed them in place.
-

Then I missed the mainstay through the racks of the lower front sail and tested it on.
-

Then I made a couple of belaying pin planks for the stern of the boat and installed them in their places. Then I tried to stretch a loop from the thread between the plank and the board. In the future, I plan to use such loops to guide rigging in hard-to-reach places inside the bottle.

Then I wound a few skeins of rope with a simple device and hung them around the nagels
-

Then I decided to make the fife rail, on which the running ends of the gaff will be fixed. In the original, this is a kind of metal band with nests for nagels, but I decided to make this part easier, because All the same it will not be visible under to the skeins of the ropes.

One of my favorite subjects, Shackleton's S/Y Endurance in 1/1250 scale, built inside of a pocket watch case. The hull is made from wood, masts are brass, railings are photoetched brass.

Then I made a small detail for fixing the bowsprit

Then I installed the blocks for the rigging of the gaffel. The scheme is, of course, simplified in comparison with the original

Many thanks, Jeff!
Yesterday I tried another technology for making blocks. This block has a pulley and its length is 2.5 mm. Perhaps for someone this information will be useful.
Now I want to try to make a smaller block using this technology. Also I need to make double and triple blocks.

Bernard Kelly reacted to IgorSky in Pilot cutter Jolie Brise in a bottle - Scale 1/240
Then I tried to install a couple of these blocks in their places.
Unfortunately now I see my mistake in the design of the mast

Hi to everyone!
Next small update. I worked on blocks at last weekend's. I made a couple dozen the single blocks.
